Planning Commission Information

ELECTRONIC MEETING INFORMATION & INSTRUCTIONS

Pursuant to Executive Order #2020-75, issued by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the Planning Commission meeting on Thursday, June 11 at 6:30 pm will take place electronically due to health concerns associated with COVID-19 and Executive Order 2020-77.

PROCEDURE FOR PUBLIC COMMENT BY ELECTRONIC MEANS

Under Executive Order 2020-75, there must be full opportunity for both the general public and the members of the Planning Commission to hear and be heard at appropriate times during the meeting. Public participants will be muted upon entry to the meeting, but will have a chance to speak during public comment.

Members of the public wishing to participate in the electronic meeting may do so by joining the zoom meeting (requires app for a smart phone or client software for a computer) or by calling in using a telephone as follows:

Using Zoom:

1.      Install the Zoom software to your computer or smart phone.

2.      Click the link – www.tinyurl.com/GenoaZoom01

3.      If needed, enter this meeting number:  829 6179 7605

4.      The meeting password is: 123456

5.      During the meeting, you will be muted until the Call to the Public. 

6.      Please remember this meeting is open to all members of the public, as such, any use of profanities, improper language, or threats may result in being removed from the meeting.

7.      During the call to the public please use the “raise hand” function in zoom to alert us that you wish to speak.  Each case on the agenda will have its own call to the public with an opportunity for public input in addition to a general call to the public for non-agenda items at the beginning of the meeting. 

8.      Participants will be called on one at a time, as would happen during an in-person meeting.   When it is your turn to speak, you will be recognized by your name and will need to unmute your audio.  Please state your name, spell your name, and give your address followed by your comments. You will then have (2) two minutes to share your comments with the Planning Commission. 

9.       At the conclusion of your comments or your (2) minutes, you will be muted and removed from the public comment queue.

6.          Please remember this meeting is open to all members of the public, as such, any use of profanities, improper language, or threats may result in being removed from the meeting.

7.          Once connected to the meeting, members of the public wishing to participate in the virtual public comment must alert us that they wish to speak by pressing “*9” on their telephone keypad. Pressing “*9” will activate the “raise hand” feature signaling to us that you wish to comment. Each case on the agenda will have its own call to the public with an opportunity for public input in addition to a general call to the public for non-agenda items at the beginning of the meeting. 

8.         Participants will be called on one at a time, as would happen during an in-person meeting.   When it is your turn to speak, Make sure your computer audio is turned down so you don’t have feedback – and that you do not have any background noise.  You will be recognized by the last four digits of your phone number and you will hear “You are unmuted - please state your name, spell your name, and give your address followed by your comments”. You will then have (2) two minutes to share your comments with the Planning Commission. 

9.         At the conclusion of your comments or your (2) minutes, you will be muted and removed from the public comment queue.  At this time you can hang up to end the call.

 Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is responsible for reviewing and approving development plans for compliance with Township ordinances, or in some instances, making recommendations to the Township Board. The planning consultant, Township engineer, and fire department provide technical staff reviews to the planning commission to assist in their decision-making process. The approval process ensures all projects meet local and state regulations, and our community receives the best looking and functioning project possible.

The Planning Commission is also responsible for approval and amendment of the Township's Master Plan and making recommendations to the Board of Trustees for zoning ordinance amendments.

The Planning Commission consists of seven members who are appointed by the Board of Trustees. One of the commissioners serves as a liaison to the Board of Trustees and another to the Zoning Board of Appeals. Commissioners are appointed to three-year terms. The current members of the Commission are:
